Troubleshooting Cooling Systems
Engineers use ACR temperature data loggers to monitor cooling coil performance to troubleshoot air conditioning systems.
The high temperature and high humidity in tropical and sub tropical regions put stress on air conditioning systems and cause high condensation in ductwork. In a Canadian government ministry building, located in New Delhi, India, water condensation was so severe that it damaged the newly finished ceiling.
Desperate to identify the source of the problem, HVAC consultants rushed in a shipment of portable data loggers. Special pipe mounted temperature probes were attached to the cooling coil supply and also at discharge locations. A temperature profile was created, the data analyzed and corrective measures implemented.
One of the greatest advantages of a data logger is that it can measure HVAC performance over a period of time. "Spot-checks" do not readily reveal the problems. Nuisance problems typically occur at the least expected times. Data loggers provide a "24-hr mechanic" that monitors system performance.
